A story from Cheetah and Whiskers’ adopters:

We adopted Cheetah and Whiskers in the summer of 2007, when they were tiny little kittens of about 6 weeks. They didn’t have names at that point, and so 6-year-old Charlie and 2-year-old Susanne named Cheetah for her stripes (made sense to them back them!) and her speed and Whiskers for her very pronounced white whiskers that contrasted with her copious black fur.

We were all delighted to play with them and to watch them play with each other. Whiskers quickly took to sleeping in our powder room sink (probably the coolest place in our house), and Cheetah became known as a daredevil when she got out onto our second-floor roof and, yes, jumped off of it.

One big challenge occurred two and a half years later, when we brought home a puppy. It took us far longer than we had anticipated to help the animals make the transition and deal well with each other. Now they seem to know they’re part of the same family, and Cheetah even accompanies us when we walk the dog.
