Lexi, as a puppy

A story from Lexi’s adopter Lawrence:

I was on the SPCA board at that time.  During the August community festival, the SPCA had a booth in front of the Library, as they always do.  My wife saw Lexi and fell in love.   She asked Executive Director Jane Cornett to allow her to bring Lexi home for a trial.  When I got home that afternoon, there was a dog in my living room.   My wife said “Happy Birthday!  This is your present”  She said that if I didn’t want her, I could take her back to the SPCA on Monday when they re-opened.   Hmmf.  It will be 12 years this August.

Lexi was left one night in one of those outdoor kennels that you had at the shelter.  This is sad in one way.  But certainly so much better than having someone leave a dog on the side of the road.  But because she was left with no identification, we must guess a bit about her exact age, and, of course, we don’t know anything of her history.

Lexi has been our constant companion.   When she was a pup, she was the star pupil in Dot Romano’s obedience class. I’m not just bragging; you can ask Dot. As part Border Collie/Australian Shepard, she’s been easy to take on walks as she is always herding her people.   She walks closely with us.   Well, unless there is a rabbit or a cat.  At one time I had a art gallery in town, and Lexi went to work with me every day.  She was the official greeter dog.   She’s 12 now and is retired.
