Spay and Neuter Options

The Rockbridge SPCA is working with the Augusta Regional SPCA Spay/Neuter Clinic.

For our next Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic or TNR (Trap Neuter Return) transport, please check our web-site calendar for upcoming dates.

Healthy dogs & cats at least 8 weeks old and weighing at least 2 pounds are eligible for surgery.
Proof of a rabies vaccination is required, or a rabies vaccine will be given for an additional fee of $12.00+.


Pet Spay and Neuter Options available:

1. Local Veterinarians –

Anyone adopting a dog or cat from the Rockbridge SPCA may select a local vet of choice to spay or neuter their new companion.  Costs vary by veterinary clinics/hospitals.

2. Monthly Low-Cost Spay/Neuter Transport –

View our web-site calendar for the next available Low-Cost Transport to Augusta Spay/Neuter Clinic. Registration and payment must be received up to the day before the transport.

– $40.00 for male cats.
– $50.00 for female cats.
– Add $12.00 if you do not have proof of a current rabies shot.
– All female cats will need a e-collar ($5.00).  If you have your own e-collar you may bring it to avoid the extra $5.00 charge.

– $75.00 for dogs 2 – 49 pounds.
– $100.00 for dogs 50 – 99 pounds.
– $125.00 for dogs over 100 pounds.

– Add $12.00 if you do not have proof of a current rabies shot.
– All dogs need a $5.00 e-collar added to the fee as well.  If you have your own e-collar you may bring it to avoid the extra $5.00 charge.


Only cash is accepted for the transport.  Payment goes directly to the Augusta Spay/Neuter Clinic.

Each pet must arrive in a hard-sided crate or carrier on the day of transport. We do not provide crates. 

3. TNR (Trap Neuter Return) –

Registration must be made anytime up to the day before the transport.  All free roaming cats must be in a cat trap.  Cost may vary from “free” to $50.00 depending on grant funding availability. All cats will be ear-tipped.  If you are unable to trap your free roaming cat for the current transport, you can transfer your registration and payment to the next transport.  We will keep trying as long as you do!

4. Alter Rockbridge (Assistance for Low-Income Families) –

If you are in need of assistance to help spay or neuter you pet, we can help qualifying families!  Please print and fill out the Rockbridge SPCA 2019-2020 Household Application for Free or Reduced Spay and Neuters. Print application and bring it to the shelter, or scan and email to  This application is intended for low-income families and will be reviewed accordingly. Funding availability is subject to change.
* The Alter Rockbridge program is only available to those that live Rockbridge County, City of Lexington, and Buena Vista.
