Rosetta

An update from Rosetta (formerly Jenny)’s family: We knew Rosetta was the one as soon as we took her out of the cage at the SPCA. She didn’t run or hide like we expected a timid shelter cat to do. Instead, she walked in circles around my four-year-old daughter Elinor, nuzzling her repeatedly while purring. … More >

Gravy

Gravy is an average, grey tabby.  I’ve seen many, many cats that look just like her.  When I visited the SPCA cat room 8 years ago, I hoped to find the perfect kitten that resembled the 14 year-old torti I just lost.  This room was filled with cats—many out exercising and playing, and several kittens … More >

A story from Lexi’s adopter Lawrence: I was on the SPCA board at that time.  During the August community festival, the SPCA had a booth in front of the Library, as they always do.  My wife saw Lexi and fell in love.   She asked Executive Director Jane Cornett to allow her to bring Lexi … More >

From Miss Kay’s adopter Tammie: Here I am with my adopted kitty (Miss Kay, front) and my crazy kitten (Silas). Who needs a blanket when they both are laying on me purring away?  The adopted kitty–I named her Miss Kay–has come into our home like she was born here. My 5 month old, neutered male … More >

Dudley’s story from his adopter Brett: In mid-December 2013 “Everbrite” came across my Facebook page, and I instantly fell in love with that face. He looked just like my Barkley who was a rescue from North Carolina. After much back and forth with shelter manager Karen Beard and hoping he would get adopted locally, decisions … More >

Ivy

A poem from Ivy’s adopters: How do we love you, Ivy? Let us count the ways: We love Ivy enough to take a 12-hour, one-day road trip to Lexington so Ivy could meet our 11-year-old dog Ollie to make sure they get along. We love Ivy enough to purchase additional home ownerʼs insurance because our … More >

A story from Diane, Maxx and Smoki’s adopter: My story goes back to 1976 when I rescued my first cat, a Siamese named Sam from Roanoke SPCA.   My second rescue was a grey shorthair male named Smokey, http://vhealthportal.com/product-category/anticonvulsants/, who was also rescued from Roanoke SPCA.  For 17 years, Smokey was the perfect cat.  He passed away … More >

A story about Pickett from her adopter Michelle: In December 2012, I adopted a wonderful treeing walker coonhound named “Sophia” with you guys, now named “Pickett”.  She is enjoying life on the farm here in Maryland and loves her coonie brother and sister! I remember when I picked her up the girl said at the … More >

Granny

Poor Granny: she clearly was owned by someone, but she came into the SPCA, around 13 years old, blind, and lost.  Luckily, Granny’s guardian angel rescued her, paid for a full vet check-up, and traveled far to give Granny the great home she deserves for the rest of her life. Thank you to Granny’s angel!
